Bald Eagle's Species

      **The northern bald eagle is slightly bigger than the southern one. 

          *The southern bald eagle can be found in the Gulf States from Texas to Florida.       

      **The largest numbers of northern bald eagles is found in the 

     north mainly in Alaska.  

     **In recent research it was found that the Northern Bald Eagle flies to the south and the Southern Bald Eagle flies to the north. For this reason there is no sub-species.

**The bald eagle main habitat is near waters, feeds mainly on fish
          *Coast
          * Major lakes and rivers 

** Mainly eats fish such as salmon, and catfish.

There are some very interesting facts about Bald Eagles. Here are 5 of them: 

1. The Bald Eagle is not really bald. It gets its name because BALD use to mean WHITE and not hairless.  

2. Both female and male have the same color, a blackish-brown body and a white head; the younger bald eagles have a mixture of white and brown feathers and a black beak. 

3. Their eyes are almost as large as humans and their sight is 4 times better than the perfect eyesight. 

4. Bald Eagles have an average of 7000 feathers 

5. Their beaks and talons are made of keratin, it is the same substance as human nails 

Why is the Bald Eagle Endangered?

The bald eagle was endangered from the 1950s to 1990s because pesticides, such as DDT that were later banned in the United States of America. In 1940 Congress passed a law that makes it illegal to kill an eagle.
